Abstract

The article deals with the hypothesis that in 1590 Shakespeare visited Elsinore in Denmark, where he attended the wedding of King James VI and Anne of Denmark and accompanied them during their visit to the astronomer Tycho Brahe. He may also have performed in Kronborg Castle an earlier version of Hamlet. The author suggests that the major part of Shakespeare's sonnets published in 1609 are dedicated to King James VI (James I). The name of the King’s mother, Mary Stuart is reflected as if in a mirror in the ninth verse of Sonnet 3, addressed to her son, through the anagram “ThoU ART thY Mother'S glass ...” Shakespeare’s Sonnet 14 is an answer to the Sonnet 31 by King James VI addressed to Tycho Brahe: “The glorious globe of heauenlie matter made ...”. The first line of the Shakespear’s sonnet is sealed with an anagram: “…STARS do I My JUdgMEnt” — James Stuart.
