A. A. Bogdanov on Organizing Role of Culture and Art
Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of culture in the works of A. A. Bogdanov. It is shown that it performs the function of creation, strengthening and transfer of values and meanings, where class organization of a society is defining. Beside conceptualizing and understanding of proletarian culture as a system of social and ideological values, Bogdanov considered the issue of the content and development of culture, which was extremely relevant in the context of the formation of a new society. In connection with the earliest stage of formation and consciousness of the proletariat as a leading and independent subject of cultural and political life one of the problems the thinker had determined the attitude to the previous tradition. To ensure the transition period, the possibility of heritage, the application of ideas and works confirming the goals and direction of the “Great Revolution” was necessary. Such work was to be carried out critically and selectively and did not imply the creation of a single, universal culture. The analysis of classical, bourgeois works was carried out fi rst of all for educational intents, its results were intended to demonstrate and confirm the advantages of collectivist, comradely values. Bogdanov allotted special importance to issues not so much the dissemination of political ideas, but education.
