On the 400th Anniversary of Yuri Kryzhanich

Abstract

The article provides an overview of the Russian-Polish symposium «Reciprocity and religious contradictions in Slavic history, culture and philosophy. To the 400th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Krizhanich». It is stated that the existing interpretations of the life and work of Yu. Krizhanich go back to the ideological constructions of the 19th century, in particular, the perception of Yu. Krizhanich as a predecessor of Pan-Slavism, the belief that he invented an «All-Slavic language», etc. It is argued that the legacy of Yu. Krizhanich requires rethinking and reassessment, and many of the facts of his biography - clarification. A brief description of the main presentations made at the symposium in which such a rethinking was attempted is given.
